Paul Cezanne (1830-1906) liked to paint fruit, lots of fruit, particularly apples. But this brilliant painter wasn’t just a still life master; he was an important bridge from Impressionism to Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism. He brought art into the modern era, if you will.
His painting had a sculptural quality. In fact, he layered paint on paint and built it up almost like a sculptor. I love his still life work.
