A Year of Creating Dangerously, Day 61: How You Like Dem Apples?

Paul Cezanne (1830-1906) liked to paint fruit, lots of fruit, particularly apples. But this brilliant painter wasn’t just a still life master; he was an important bridge from Impressionism to Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism. He brought art into the modern era, if you will.

His painting had a sculptural quality. In fact, he layered paint on paint and built it up almost like a sculptor. I love his still life work. It has a wonderful calming effect at the same time that it conveys a lot of depth and emotion. In other words, I like dem apples! Below are just a few of his works to feature les pommes:
